Sorry that I don't have my own experiences to share. I suspect this still happens, but probably not as much as it did 20 years ago. I have quite a few friends who went on a mission trying to fix themselves or just hoping it would go away. (Kinsey's work was good, but his numbers are bad) Although I bet there are a lot of gay experiences by people who identify as straight because they have to spend all their time with a member of the same sex.ĭid you leave on your mission knowing you were homosexual or did you think it was just a "stage"? I would say it's a lot closer to 4% since it's around there for the general population. Probably 10% of missionaries are homosexual I'm just used to only hearing people who don't support gay rights call being gay "a lifestyle." Haha! I think something like, "but I support gay rights" would sound better, but that's not really important. I am not homosexual (but supportive of the lifestyle) Thanks! I look forward to hearing your stories. It would be sort of cool to have a website devoted to being gay while a mormon missionary so gay missionaries could check it out and get the inside scoop before they do something stupid to get caught (if they don't want to be caught that is). I would love to take some time to learn about some of your experiences. Now that I think of it I am sure there was some homosexuality on my mission but at the time I was far too naive to realize it. I am just curious about getting to know what life was like for others. Overall, what was your relationship like with the other homosexual missionaries, did you all sorta know who each other was? Did anyone else know? I know there is a gay underground at BYU but is there also a gay underground on most missions. How did you identify other homosexual partners among the missionaries/members? Seems like it would be a little trickier than it must be in the real world.ĭid you experience a large amount of guilt about your actions or had you pretty much accepted yourself by that time? Were your homosexual relationships strictly physical or was there much emotional bonding as well? Did you leave on your mission knowing you were homosexual or did you think it was just a "stage"?ĭid you leave for your mission expecting to have homosexual experiences while serving? Perhaps I am wrong, please let me know if I am, but I would assume by the time a homosexual man or woman is 19 they would have a fairly decent idea or their orientation. What I would love to hear from those that are willing to share is what the mission experience was like for homosexual missionaries, especially those that managed to actually have some homosexual experiences while a missionary. I am not trying to "get off" on your stories=) If I just wanted to watch some gay porn I would.

Out of those some must obviously see a mission as an opportunity to hook up when given the chance or perhaps give into what they believed were base desires. Probably 10% of missionaries are homosexual with 50,000 missionaries obviously homosexual missionaries must be companions occasionally. As I think about it now I realize it is obvious this would happen. I am not homosexual (but supportive of the lifestyle) and for some stupid reason was initially surprised to read someone experienced homosexual activity on their mission.

On another reddit exmo post a few of the commenters were discussing having homosexual experiences during the time they were serving as missionaries. I left the church a couple of years ago and am a complete non-believer at this time.
